Tyvek® (Tayvek®) is a multifunctional nonwoven material. Thanks to its porous "breathable" structure, it provides an effective barrier against solid particles, aerosols, splashes of acid solutions, and radioactive particles.
Composition
Polyethylene — 100%. The Tyvek® nonwoven fabric consists of fine continuous polyethylene fibers bonded by heat.
Properties
- Micro-openings between the interlaced fibers prevent external contaminants from passing through while providing comfortable moisture vapor transmission (allowing moisture evaporated from the body to escape freely).
- Water- and acid-resistant: the material does not lose its protective properties when exposed to water and low-concentration acids.
- High tensile and tear strength, resistance to repeated flexing.
- Protection against dust and solid particles larger than 1 micron.
- Protection from wind.
Applications
The material is multifunctional and used in many fields. For example, for protecting postal shipments and in building construction to shield against wind and precipitation. The Vostok-Service range includes chemical protective coveralls made from Tyvek®.
