Antistatic Threads

Antistatic yarn is a multicomponent yarn in which textile fibers are combined with conductive (metallic or carbon) fibers, providing dissipation of electrostatic charge on materials.

Composition

Vostok-Service products use antistatic threads made with fibers (threads) of stainless steel. The main electrically conductive component — stainless steel — can be woven together with various fibers: polyester, polyamide, wool, cotton, etc.


How it works

Threads containing stainless steel are arranged on the fabric in a characteristic grid, most often 10 by 10 mm in size, forming a closed circuit.

The charge disperses along the circuit and is reduced to a level safe for a person (it does not concentrate in one area).

To subsequently drain the charge away from the person and prevent spark formation, the employee must be grounded (for example, via conductive footwear).

Properties

Metallized antistatic threads provide instantaneous charge dissipation: the specific electrical surface resistance of fabrics with such threads is 103-104 Ω — this far exceeds current safety requirements (no more than 107 Ω according to GOST 12.4.124-83, TR TS 019/2011).

As a result, under grounded conditions the charge drains instantly, minimizing not only the risk of ignition but also negative effects of prolonged exposure to static electricity on a person, such as headache, increased fatigue, anxiety, etc.
