Over 4500 enterprises operate in Moscow, representing a wide range of manufacturing sectors — from food products and pharmaceuticals to engineering, microelectronics and spacecraft.
Some interesting facts:
- According to legend, the 'Krasnaya Shapochka' candies were created in 1955 as a result of a technological improvisation. The senior master of the chocolate workshop, Nikolai Vinogradov, while preparing to produce a batch of 'Mishka Kosolapy' candies, encountered a shortage of almonds and replaced them with peanuts. This led to the emergence of a new flavor and the creation of a separate type of candy.
- On 18 June 1937 the crew of Valery Chkalov on the Tupolev ANT-25 aircraft with an AM-34FRN engine produced at a plant in Moscow made the first intercontinental flight in history over the North Pole.
- The 'Detsky Krem' familiar from childhood has been produced in quantities exceeding 430 million tubes over the past 70 years.
