This coming Sunday, workers in the mechanical engineering industry will celebrate their professional holiday.

Mechanical engineering is the foundation of all industry. This sector produces machine tools, equipment, mechanisms, and complex machinery without which no plant or factory can operate. Thanks to the work of mechanical engineering professionals, the most advanced engineering projects come to life.

Interesting facts:

  • Peter I is regarded as the founder of Russia's industrial development. During his reign the first large armament, shipbuilding and foundry enterprises were established, and the principles of division of labor began to be implemented. These industries laid the foundation for the future of Russian mechanical engineering.
  • The first mechanical engineering enterprise in Russia appeared in 1804 — it was the St. Petersburg Steam Engine Plant.
  • The first Russian mass-produced car was created as a result of cooperation between the Yakovlev factory and the Frese workshop. It was presented in 1896 at the Nizhny Novgorod exhibition. The car had a 2 hp engine, a two-seat phaeton body, and reached speeds of up to 20 km/h.
  • It is believed that the first prototype of a steam engine was created by the Flemish Jesuit Ferdinand Verbiest around 1672. It was a small model of a steam carriage intended for the Chinese emperor. There are suggestions that it could have been the first working vehicle, albeit a very small one.

We congratulate the workers of the mechanical engineering industry on their professional holiday! We wish you good health, inexhaustible energy, and decent and safe working conditions.
