Vostok-Service supports environmental initiatives aimed at protecting the environment. Company employees actively participate in the plastic cap collection program, and more people are joining the campaign. The boxes in our offices, stores and factories have started filling up faster, so we now use larger containers to store recyclables before handing them over. All collected caps are transferred to the EcoTaxi service for further delivery to recycling facilities.
Interesting facts about plastic caps and their recycling:
- Caps are made of polypropylene (PP 5) — a strong, lightweight and heat-resistant plastic. Thanks to these properties, the cap seals tightly, does not deform from hot drinks and does not react with their contents, keeping the beverage safe.
- Long decomposition path. A plastic cap sent to a landfill will take about 100–200 years to break down, gradually turning into microplastics and contaminating soil and water.
- Recycled polypropylene is a valuable raw material. It is used to make new useful products: garden rakes, scoops, stationery (rulers, paper holders), as well as components for the automotive industry and even paving tiles.
- Recycling 1 kg of plastic caps saves about 1,5–2 kg of oil that would otherwise be used to produce new plastic from scratch.
