Seasonal changes primarily affect the red pandas' feeding habits. When bamboo becomes scarce, they switch to wild berries, mushrooms, and bird eggs. As in other seasons, red pandas mainly eat and sleep during the day. Red panda cubs are born fully covered with dense fur that protects them from cold and wind, so in autumn and winter they remain comfortable.
The Caucasus–Białowieża bison, with the arrival of autumn, begin to feed on acorns, berries, mushrooms, conifer needles, moss, and lichens. In spring and summer, when herbaceous plants make up the bulk of their diet, bison mainly choose high-mountain meadows; in autumn and winter they try to stay within the forest, where woody browse is always available.
Daurian cranes are warmth-loving birds, so every year at the beginning of autumn they gather in the same place to begin their migration. By October the flocks form the characteristic "crane wedge" and set off on their long journey. They fly during the day at high altitude, covering several thousand kilometers a day. At their wintering sites Daurian cranes split into pairs or small groups during the day to defend their feeding territories, and at night they join large groups and sleep on one leg, tucking their head under a wing amid the marshes.
