Builder's Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of August in Russia. The construction industry is one of the key sectors of the economy, ensuring the development of cities, the creation of new jobs and comfortable living conditions for millions of people.
Interesting facts:
- The Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow was built in 450 days. It was opened on 31 July 1956 with a match between the RSFSR and China national teams, which drew 100 thousand spectators. The record timeframe was made possible by the enthusiasm of volunteers from across the country. At the same time the construction was large-scale: due to the marshy soil the site had to be raised (about 3 million cubic meters of soil were filled in by dredgers) and 10 thousand piles were driven.
- The tallest building in Russia and Europe is the Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg. Its height is 462 meters, and it has 87 floors.
- The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. The total area is almost 4 000 sq. m. The building can accommodate up to 10 000 people.
