Interesting facts:
- The first self-service store (supermarket) in the USSR appeared in December 1954 in Leningrad.
- The legendary "Yeliseyevsky" store in Moscow opened in 1901 and impressed customers with its luxurious interior and variety of goods. It featured exotic fruits, vegetable oils, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, cakes and pastries. Anchovies and truffles were also sold there.
- In Pompeii, archaeologists found establishments that sold hot food to go — precursors of modern food courts.
- Many peoples had patron gods of trade: Hermes among the ancient Greeks, Mercury among the Romans, Yacatecuhtli among the Aztecs, Ek Chuah among the Maya, Veles among the Slavs.

- The coat of arms of Chelyabinsk features a camel as a symbol of trade. The camel reflects the city's history — many caravans passed through Chelyabinsk, coming from southern countries with various goods.
