Every year, Metallurgist's Day is observed on the third Sunday of July. We congratulate the workers of the metallurgical industry, whose work — is fire, metal and strength. This profession requires physical endurance, high qualification, attentiveness and true team spirit. Without metallurgy there would be no machines, bridges, skyscrapers, or even simple items such as forks or nuts.
Interesting facts:
- Tungsten has the highest melting point — 3 422°C!
- The metal that "remembers" its shape — an alloy of nickel and titanium (Nitinol). If bent, it returns to its original shape when heated.
- Russia — one of the world's leaders in high-grade nickel production, in aluminum output, in titanium product manufacturing, and in steel smelting volumes.
- Zinc — the metal that protects against rust. It is used to coat iron to protect it from corrosion. For example, galvanized buckets and roofs are made this way.
- Titanium is used in the aerospace industry thanks to its combination of high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, and ability to withstand extreme temperatures.
