You've likely heard about two red pandas, a round armadillo and a Daurian crane on the Vostok-Service channels, since we constantly monitor how our charges are doing and share this information with you.
We decided to treat you to the latest news from the lives of these rare animals.
Zeyn and Ryzhik are two red pandas often mistaken for raccoons or large cats. They are considered "cold-hardy" animals, as their thick fur protects them from hypothermia. Therefore, in winter the red pandas are not moved to warm enclosures and zoo visitors can easily find them in their usual spot. There they are active in the morning and evening hours, enjoying the winter and playing with each other.
As for the round armadillo Sonya, she is still kept in an enclosure closed to visitors while awaiting her "prince." To avoid frightening or stressing the animal, only zoo staff she is accustomed to visit her. It is possible that she will meet her new chosen mate soon and become a mother again.
Last year we welcomed a new charge – a Daurian crane. He and his fellow cranes are kept in an enclosure where all conditions for wintering have been provided. But sometimes he also goes out for a walk, and he can be seen too.
