This year Vostok-Service took another resident of the Moscow Zoo under its patronage. Which one? Read about it in this article.
Many of our clients and partners know that since 2014 Vostok-Service has been running the "Animal Sponsorship" project. Its idea is to provide gratuitous assistance to representatives of the animal world that are rare and on the brink of extinction.
For several years now Vostok-Service Group, together with partners, has been sponsoring the spherical armadillo Sonya and two red pandas, Zeyn and Ryzhik. We regularly share stories about their lives on our website and social media.
And in 2022 we decided to become sponsors of another resident of the Moscow Zoo — the Daurian crane. This is a rare bird species that is protected and listed in the Red Data Book. Currently the total population of Daurian cranes is estimated at 4,900–5,300 individuals (within our country their number does not exceed 600).
Interesting facts:
- Why did we choose the Daurian crane? Mostly this species inhabits a narrow strip of East Asia — from the Russian Far East to northeastern Mongolia. In other words, the crane is most often found in the East — the part of the world whose name appears in our company’s name.
- The Daurian crane is the only crane species whose legs have a pinkish tint and which has broad white bands running along its neck.
- It is an omnivorous bird. The Daurian crane can feed on both aquatic plants and small mammals (mice).
We will keep an eye on our new ward and regularly share news about its life in the zoo.
